Education brings hope. In this programme and over the coming year we will be looking at how lives are changing for the better thanks to the hope education brings.

In our first Learning World programme we head off the beaten track to Colombia and India but also to Paris, France.

Our first report is on the Escuela Nueva – an education model that has revolutionised teaching right across Latin America. The school was founded by Vicky Colbert and she remains its Executive Director.

The Escuela Nueva or ‘new school’ model was launched to improve educational standards and address learning inequalities between cities and rural communities.

We also speak to Francois Taddei from France who is considered one of the present-day visionaries of education. He shares his ideas and plans on how to enable children to learn.

Our last report takes us to India to a tribal village school focusing on girls’ education. The Nanhi Kali project is defying gender discrimination.

In India an estimated eight million children do not attend school, the majority of them are girls. Female literacy is about 55% in India, but in remote places like Udaipur, it drops to 27%. This is why Nanhi Kali focuses on girls’ education in very remote tribal villages, like Jhan Jhar Ki Pal, North Udaipur, in Rajastan.
