A cyber attack has been launched against Israeli government websites by the group Anonymous who warned of a hacking assault called “OpIsrael” in protest at the country’s policies towards the Palestinians.

The Defence and Education Ministries as well banks have allegedly come under attack, however they have mostly resisted the hackers. The Israeli government has said websites were operating as normal.

Hackers have attempted to hack Israeli sites in the past including the country’s stock exchange and national airline as well as publishing the credit card details of thousands of citizens.
