“Countries like Ireland in particular, also Spain and Portugal, are on their way back to the market: they have been able to issue long term bonds again”, says the Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism ESM, Klaus Regling, to EuroNews. “Interest rates for those countries have been dropped by two thirds”, stresses Regling. “I can see that we are getting to the end of this (rescue) operation: two thirds of countries’ homeworks are done!” Regarding the ECB debate on OMT, discussed at the German Constitutional Court, Regling takes “note that the general expectation is that the German Constitutional Court will not directly prohibit an action of the European Central Bank”. – Use this link to listen to the forth part of the EuroNews interview with EMS Director Klaus Regling.
