Technology giant Samsung must pay rival Apple €215 million in damages, a US jury has ruled.

The verdict was announced after a federal court retrial in San Jose, California.

The award follows a ruling last year that Samsung copied various iPhone features – like using fingers to pinch and zoom on the screen – along with design touches like the phone’s flat, black glass screen.

Apple was initially awarded €778m. In March US District Judge Lucy Koh upheld about €445m of that verdict but ordered a retrial on the rest, ruling that the previous jury had made some errors in its calculations.

Representatives for Apple and Samsung could not immediately be reached after the verdict was announced.
