Carnival kicks off in Cologne

Thousands of people dressed in colourful costumes celebrated the start of the street carnival in Cologne’s.

The crowd traditionally gathered in Alter Markt square where revellers began 
enjoying a glass of ‘Koelsch‘ beer well before festivities officially kicked off.
