The Mission: Impossible star is rumoured to have pre-taped stunts in Paris and Los Angeles for the 11 August ceremony...

He’s scaled Dubai’s 163-floor Burj Khalifa skyscraper.

He’s dangled on the outside of an Airbus 400 as it took off.

He held his breath underwater for six minutes.

And that’s just on a normal work day on the sets of the Mission: Impossible movies...

We all know that Tom Cruise has never shied away from challenging himself in his roles.

But now, the 62-year-old-actor is set to perform another starring role, this time at the Olympic closing ceremony in Paris, as Los Angeles prepares for the Olympic handover on 11 August.

“Expect a major Hollywood production,” a source told Deadline.

The Hollywood star will be dropping in - quite literally - when the Olympic flag is handed over to the 2028 games host city, with rumours that Cruise may skydive to the Hollywood Sign during the orchestrated handoff to LA.

According to TMZ, the stunt was shot in March. During the pre-taped segment, Cruise apparently rappels down the Stade de France in Paris, travel by airplane to LA and end up at the famous Hollywood sign.

Of course, details of the Paris closing ceremony are kept tightly under wraps, and the International Olympic Committee has yet to confirm anything. We already know that LA Mayor Karen Bass is set to receive the Olympic flag from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

Cruise has been spotted in Paris during the games, including for the women’s gymnastics qualifiers as well as swimming competitions.

The actor has been filming the eighth Mission: Impossible installment around Europe, including England in March of this year. The film is scheduled for a release in summer 2025.

The 2024 Paris closing ceremony takes place on 11 August. The 2028 Summer Olympics will run 14-30 July in Los Angeles, which also hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984.
