The father of the young Spanish football star and FC Barcelona player, Lamine Yamal, has been stabbed in a car park in the Rocafonda neighbourhood of Mataró on Wednesday night.

At least three people have been arrested on charges of attempted murder, with the Mossos d'Esquadra investigating the incident in collaboration with local police, according to domestic reports.

Mounir Nasraoui was taken to the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona, where he is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Domestic media reports say that Nasraoui was insulted while walking his dog, resulting in a physical fight.

An unverified video shown on several Spanish media outlets on Thursday depicts a man wearing a Lamine Yamal T-shirt arguing with three other people.

In another video, the Guardia Urbana officers arrive at the scene and separate Nasraoui from his assailants.

Yamal has not publicly commented on the incident but has uploaded a story on Instagram with an image of his father with several hearts.

Nasraoui was previously sentenced to pay a fine of €546 after attacking a tent belonging to the far-right Vox party last year.

The "Blaugrana" winger comes from a family of Moroccan origin and grew up in Rocafonda, a neighbourhood in the Catalan town of some 126,000 known for its relatively large immigrant population.
