Liberia’s Ministry of Defence has dispatched coast guard personnel to investigate an unknown tanker that was washed ashore in the coastal city of Robertsport, some 75 kilometres (47 miles) west of Monrovia, about a week ago. Officials said they cannot explain the presence of the ship, but parts of it were burnt in a yet unknown incident. One of the ship’s two lifeboats was still aboard the vessel, suggesting the other may have been used by the crew. The ship was flying the Nigerian flag.
