Brazilian airline Voepass confirmed the plane was headed for the state capital's international airport.
ADVERTISEMENTA passenger plane crashed in Brazil's São Paulo state on Friday, killing all 62 people on board, authorities said.
The Brazilian airline Voepass said in a statement that the plane was carrying 58 passengers and four crew members.
Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said during a press conference at an event that there were no survivors from the crash before, calling for a minute of silence for the victims.
São Paulo's fire department posted on social media that seven firefighting teams were deployed to help with the aftermath.
They confirmed that the plane from Cascavel to São Paulo crashed at 1:25 pm local time (6:25 pm CET) in the city of Vinhedo near a highway close to the state capital's city centre.
Brazilian television network GloboNews showed footage of a plane spiralling downwards, as well as images of a large area on fire with smoke apparently from a plane fuselage in a residential area.
Live flight tracker website Flightradar24 posted on X that the aircraft, reportedly built in 2010, was flying at 17,000 feet (about 5,100 metres) just before it crashed.
No information has yet been provided on what might have caused the crash.
