With the Paris Olympics 2024 due to start, participating nations are champing at the bit to showcase their sporting cultures to the rest of the world.
One strong presence at the 2024 games is Brazil, with 277 Brazilian athletes set to participate. This year also marks the first time Brazil sends a majority female delegate, pointing to the dominance of women’s sports in Brazil.
ADVERTISEMENTTo drum up excitement for the Brazilian delegation and to bring some Brazilian magic to proceedings, Brazil will host Casa Brasil, a cultural and recreational space for spectators, fans and athletes to take part in an extravaganza of Brazilian music, sports, culture and gastronomy.
Kicking back at Casa Brasil
Bringing the sunny exuberance of Brazil to north Paris’ leafy Parc La Villette from July 26th, Casa Brasil opens to the public, showcasing the energy and passion with Brazilian culture and the depth of its sporting heritage.
Over the course of the Paris Olympics 2024, Casa Brasil hosts a full line-up of cultural events and activities across its four regional cubes, two stages and outdoor arena.
Daily showcases of live Brazilian music, performance and dance heighten the excitement, with the bold colours and up-tempo sounds of Latin America reaching their zenith on weekends. Join in on a dance workshop or watch championship performances of the artistic styles of axé, samba, capoeira and passinho (a street dance that originated in the hills and suburbs of Rio de Janeiro) followed by energetic parties into the night.
A centrepiece bar, framed by viewing screens and parasols is the ideal spot to cheer on Team Brazil during live streamed Olympic events. Caipirinhas, lime-wedged beers and traditional Brazilian snacks – such as acarajé and coxinhas – are also served on site.
ADVERTISEMENTSporting highlights include a beach volleyball workshop led by Olympic medalist Jackie Silva, allowing energetic visitors to practise the traditional sport of Brazil’s beaches for themselves. As well as scheduled events, visitors can roll up daily for frescobol, volleyball and football matches on the Sand Court, played in the traditional way – with one's flip-flops as goal posts.
The best Casa Brasil yet
This year, organisers have created their biggest clubhouse yet to promote the beauty, sporting passion and alegria da vida – joy of life – that Brazil offers to the world. “With our partners, we will certainly create one of the best Casa Brasils in history”, says Marcelo Freixo, President of the Brazilian Tourism Board. “[We are] working to promote our country with all our best – our sports, our music, and, especially, our joy of living that will captivate Paris.”
Each of the clubhouse’s four cubes is designed to showcase the unique attractions of Brazil’s different regions. For the Rio de Janeiro cube, the walls come decorated in high-res images of iconic natural and historical top spots, including Ipanema Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer.
Coordinated by the Brazilian Olympic Committee with sponsorship by the Brazilian Tourist Board (Visit Brasil/Embratur) and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), Casa Brasil stands out among a number of Olympic clubhouses clustered throughout the city, including Casa Mexico, TeamNL House (Netherlands) and Club France.
