Video. Protesters attack hotel housing asylum seekers in UK

Protesters threw objects at police officers in the English town of Rotherham on Sunday as some of the demonstrators attempted to break into a hotel being used to house asylum seekers.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer strongly condemned the attack on Sunday on the hotel, describing it as “far-right thuggery" as more violence broke out in several towns and cities across the country in the wake of a stabbing rampage at a dance class that left three girls dead and many more wounded.

False rumours, spread online that the suspect was a Muslim and an asylum-seeker, led to the protests that have seen immigrants, police, and Muslims attacked.

In a statement from 10 Downing Street on Sunday afternoon, the prime minister vowed that the authorities will “do whatever it takes to bring these thugs to justice."
