In a swanky Nairobi suburb, there’s a new dining experience that’s pulling in the crowds. Robots are assisting the staff at the Robot Cafe — the first of its kind in East Africa.

Customers access the menu by scanning a QR code at the table and placing their order online. Once the food is ready, a bell rings to alert a human waiter, who places it on a robot's tray.

The robots then deliver the food to a table after a few commands are keyed in on an iPad.

They are controlled via a central command centre running specialised software. After a long day's shift, the robots are charged overnight.

The restaurant has been making waves in recent weeks, and the robot staff have been met with a lot of enthusiasm.

However, the introduction has raised concerns about job displacement, especially in the Kenya's hospitality industry.
