The former US president said he would create a government efficiency commission led by Elon Musk.
ADVERTISEMENTUS presidential candidate Donald Trump has said he would have tech billionaire Elon Musk lead a "government efficiency commission" if elected.
"At the suggestion of Elon Musk, who has given me his complete and total endorsement (...) I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms," Trump said.
The former US president went on to say that Musk "had agreed to head that task force".
"[It'd] be interesting, if he has the time, he'd be a good one to do it," Trump said.
He floated the idea, first suggested by Musk, in a speech to the Economic Club of New York, a group of executives and industry leaders.
Trump also unveiled proposals in the speech to slash regulations and boost energy production, embrace cryptocurrencies, and drastically cut government spending as well as corporate taxes for companies that produce in the US.
"I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises," Musk said in a post on his social media platform X. "No pay, no title, no recognition is needed".
The former president and Musk discussed a role for the entrepreneur in a second Trump administration during a streamed conversation on X last month.
Musk officially endorsed Trump in July shortly after the former president survived an assassination attempt.
