Dozens of people are presumed dead and about 100 injured, most of them seriously, following a fire at a Swiss Alps bar during a New Year’s celebration, police said Thursday.

Several people were killed and others injured when an explosion ripped through a bar in the luxury Alpine ski resort town of Crans Montana, Swiss police said early Thursday.

Images published by Swiss media showed a building in flames, and emergency services nearby

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire, police said.

A reception center and helpline have been established for impacted families, Lathion said.

The community is in the heart of the Swiss Alps, just 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the Matterhorn.
