Colombia’s earthquake rescue teams pulled a 32-year-old woman alive from the ruins of a collapsed building in Pereira on Tuesday, August 11, after she had been trapped for 36 hours. Daniela Largo Sánchez was brought out under a blue sheet to protect her privacy before being taken to an ambulance. Rescuers applauded as she emerged from the rubble, according to footage from the scene.

Bogota firefighters said Largo Sánchez had been located about 10 hours before the rescue but was buried too deeply for an immediate extraction. Crews worked carefully through the debris to reach her without causing further collapse.
The rescue came as emergency teams continued searching damaged buildings across western Colombia following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake of August 10. Firefighters said another person remained trapped in the same building in Pereira, where rescue operations were continuing.
